"You should be a stand-up comic!" How many times have your friends and family said that you're SO FUNNY and that you should be sharing your sense of humor onstage with everyone? But trying to do stand-up is a scary prospect, right? Our Stand-Up Comedy class will take all of the scary out of doing stand-up! This five-week class will give you a basic, usable took-kit for creating your own well-received stand-up comedy routines. You can save yourself years of painful experimentation and go straight to the funny.
In five weeks, you'll learn how to take your thoughts, experiences and observations about life and blend them with your unique sense of humor to produce brilliant stand-up comedy. You'll learn stage presence and proper delivery of your jokes as well as how to get your comedy career started. Then you'll finish the class with a live performance or student showcase, along with the Improv class and sketch team. The class is for comedians who are at the beginning of their career to help them get better, as well as someone who has never been on stage.
Stand-up is a valuable showcase for actors, and an empowering form of self-expression. What are you waiting for?

* Making bold choices
* Staying committed throughout the scene
* Enhancing acting skill with emotions and physicality
* Creating characters with a strong comedic perspective
* Playing off other performer's characters
* Building on the basics of "yes, and" and "if this is true, what else is true"
This 8- week class culminates with a showcase that will include sketch and stand-up performances

Unlike Improv, sketches are scripted. Think Saturday Night Live or Monty Python’s Flying Circus. This will not be run as a class but will instead be run as a weekly meet-up. For those new to sketch writing, we'll discuss the basics and will bring in outside help when needed. Participants will be encouraged to write and share sketches each week. We'll spend time each session to read new sketches and will work as a team to choose sketches to be performed in the showcase on March 25th, which will be a variety show with members of the Improv 101 and stand-up classes. We will also collaborate to create our own shows either as a group or individually. Each session will be limited to 10 individuals.
